Quick answer: To estimate trip fuel cost, divide miles by MPG, convert gallons to litres, then multiply by the fuel price per litre. Driverz does the conversion for you and shows total cost, litres used and cost per mile.

How the trip cost is calculated

The calculator uses UK miles per gallon and UK pump prices in pence per litre.

Formula Fuel used in litres = (miles ÷ MPG) × 4.54609
Trip cost = litres used × pence per litre ÷ 100

Trip cost calculator FAQs

Does this calculate the exact cost?

It gives an estimate based on distance, MPG and pump price. Traffic, speed, weather, tyres and load can change the real result.

Should I use motorway fuel prices?

Use the price you expect to pay. Motorway forecourts are often more expensive, so checking nearby stations before a long journey can help.

Can I use it for diesel?

Yes. Enter the diesel price per litre and your vehicle MPG. The calculation works the same way for petrol and diesel.

What if I only know litres per 100 km?

Use the Driverz MPG calculator first, then return here with an MPG estimate for this trip calculator.
